When the Black Lives Matter movement began, my heart broke for the ugliness we try to deny and hide around racism, and I asked myself what I could do about it. I realized that I could say to the Black people around me that I see you, and you are beautiful. How many Black veterans do we acknowledge for their contribution? This small piece sits in a repurposed wooden box that was a vintage fruit crate.
